P&O Cruises announced that the naming ceremony of its newest cruise ship Arvia will take place in a beachside ceremony in Barbados on Thursday March 16, 2023. The 5,200-passenger cruise ship will launch just before the Christmas holidays.

On December 6, 2022, Norwegian Cruise Line announced the increase of daily services charges, which provide gratuities to key onboard crew members. The U.S. Coast Guard executed a medical evacuation of a 29-year-old female crew member from the cruise ship Carnival Valor. The crew member was medevacked on Saturday evening as the ship was sailing on the Mississippi River near Port Sulphur, Louisiana.

One person died and four were injured when a massive freak wave crashed into the expedition cruise ship Viking Polaris, during a storm as it sailed off the southernmost tip of South America. The Viking Polaris was sailing Tuesday towards Ushuaia, Argentina, the home port for expedition ships to Antarctica, when there was “a rogue wave incident,” Viking said in a statement.
