Top 10 List: Best and Worst Cruise Lines USPH Scores for 2017

2017 was a tough year for the cruise industry regarding the sanitation inspections conducted by the United States Public Health Authorities. A record number of fifteen cruise ships fail to pass the inspection, however, on the other hand, many cruise ships passed with a perfect score of 100 points. Looking at the CDC inspection scores for 2017, we decided to do an analysis and find out what is the average score of each cruise line.

USPH Inspectors find food and equipment in Carnival Vista crew areas and cabin

The latest Carnival cruise ship, Carnival Vista, failed the USPH inspection. The ship received 79 points after inspectors found numerous violations, most of them related to the Food and Beverage department. The inspection was held in December, however, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the report of violations today.

Why aren’t there psychologists on board cruise ships?

As a former crewmember that has worked for several cruise lines, I can relate to the constant high stress situations that crewmembers must endure on a daily basis. There are so many foreseeable challenges that crewmembers must face when starting a life at sea on the other side of the planet, but there are also some unforeseen ones that can really disrupt what could’ve been a great contract.

Carnival Triumph fails USPH inspection

The cruise ship Carnival Triumph fail to pass the recent USPH Inspection.  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Inspectors boarded the vessel on November 11, at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana, and found multiple violations. CDC has not yet released an official report on their website, however, several crew members have reported that the final USPH score was 78. An 85 or lower on the CDC's 100-point inspection scale is considered failing grade.
