Authorities in Puerto Rico are investigating the death of a man onboard the cruise ship Carnival Fascination. According to the police report, the man was identified as the 22-year-old Serbian national, Nikola Arnautovic. The young man who was part of Carnival Fascination crew was found hanged in his cabin on the Carnival Cruise Line cruise ship Fascination on Sunday at around 10.41 am (14.41 GMT) after the vessel docked at Pier 4 in San Juan. Agents of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan, with the public prosecutor on duty, investigated the scene.
In the wake of this tragic event, we send our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased crew member. It is always disturbing to hear of a death of a fellow crew member.
In the past years, there have been several tragic events of cruise ship employees by hanging.
In February 2017, a 27-year-old dishwasher from India was found dead in his cabin. The crew member who was working on the cruise ship Costa Magica was found by his roommate while the vessel was in Antigua on February, 15. Police reported that the deceased was found hanging in his cabin and that his fellow cabin mate took him down in an attempt to revive him, to no avail. Rumors on the ship circulated that he had problems with his wife.
In March 2016, a 21-year-old crew member Eduardo Sanchez Smith, who was working as a cook on the cruise ship Island Princess was found hanging in his cabin. It was Eduardo’s first contract onboard a cruise ship. Some friends say that he committed suicide because of stress and pressure by the supervisors.
In July 2015, a 33-year-old British national who was working as a cook on Crystal Serenity was found hanging in the cabin while the ship was in Bordeaux, France. It was also his first contract.
