Disney Cruise Line has announced that Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. will serve as the official godparent of its newest and largest cruise ship, Disney Adventure, ahead of the vessel’s maiden voyage from Singapore on March 10.
The choice is a natural fit. Downey, best known for portraying Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will ceremonially “bless” the ship. Disney Adventure features an entire deck dedicated to Marvel experiences, making Downey’s connection to the ship especially meaningful.
Downey said it was an honor to take on the role, joking about the scale of the responsibility. “As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed,” he said.
At 208,000 gross tons and with capacity for up to 6,700 passengers, Disney Adventure is about 44% larger than Disney’s Wish-class ships. The vessel introduces several first-of-its-kind attractions, including the Ironcycle Test Run, a full-scale roller coaster inspired by Tony Stark, along with seven themed zones such as Marvel Landing, Disney Imagination Garden, and San Fransokyo Street.
The ship will be based in Singapore, with dining and onboard experiences reflecting Asian cultures alongside Disney’s signature storytelling.
