A British passenger sailing on P&O Azura died and nine other passengers have been injured in a bus crash in Roseau, Dominica. The cruise line P&O confirmed that all those injured are British, and have been treated by Azura medical staff before sending them at the local hospital.
P&O Cruises, has released a statement saying “A bus operated by a shore excursion provider was involved in a collision in Dominica on Wednesday lunchtime,” the statement said. “The bus was carrying 12 passengers, including 10 guests from Azura. The cause of the accident is not yet known. ”
The statement said one passenger has died of injuries and nine were treated at hospital with the majority now discharged.
“The names of the guests involved in the incident have not been released. P&O Cruises representatives are on-site at the hospital to support the injured. Next of kin have been informed,” the statement stated. “We have activated our Care team to help those affected by the accident.”
P&O Cruises Senior Vice President, Paul Ludlow, said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this tragic event. Our employees and crew are working to do everything we can to extend support and assistance to those affected and their loved ones.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the local authorities and is not yet know. Our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and all the passengers involved in this on bus crush, who must be traumatized by this terrible fatal accident.
This is second fatal bus crash in Dominica in 2016, involving cruise ship passengers. In January, seven MSC Orchestra passengers were injured in a bus accident, sadly one baby died in the crush.
