Deadly Bus Accident in Belize Kills 5 People Including 2 Cruise Passengers

A tragic accident involving a tourist bus with cruise ship passengers and a red SUV happened today on the George Price Highway in Belize. The accident occurred after the van full with cruise ship passengers was returning from a popular tour at Jaguar Paw Cave. According to local sources the red SUV was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided into a white van carrying the tourists.

Qatar to use MSC cruise ships as floating hotels for 2022 FIFA World Cup

World Cup host nation Qatar announced it will charter two cruise ships which will be used as floating hotels to accommodate soccer fans during the FIFA 2022. Four thousand staterooms will be available during the World Cup from November 21-December 18 2020 in the port of Doha, following an agreement between the Organizing Committee and the MSC Cruises.

Filipino Crew Member Attempts Suicide On MSC Cruise Ship

A 24-year-old Filipino crew member was transferred by the Emergency Medical Services in Boston Hospital on October 26th. According to our source, the young man was working on board the cruise ship MSC Meraviglia as a buffet steward for a couple of months when he attempted to commit suicide. The crew member was found in his cabin and thanks to the quick response to the medical teams he is now recovering.

CBP Restrictions for Cruise Ship Crew in New York and New Jersey

Due to the increased number of crew members who joined cruise lines with the intent of jumping ship and stay in the USA illegally, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) imposed new restrictions. The new temporary restrictions regarding shore leave in the ports in New York (Brooklyn and Manhattan) and New Jersey (Cape Liberty) states that only crew members with completed five contracts can go ashore. This is industry-wide and affects all cruise ships entering these ports.

Cruise Lines Cancel Stops in Barcelona Over Mass Protests

Several cruise lines have canceled port stops in Barcelona due to the protests and unrests in the capital of Catalonia. The situation in Barcelona is tense and is getting more and more restless after harsh prison sentences handed to the pro-independence leaders by the Spain’s Supreme Court. Since the beginning of the protests are 97 people arrested, as confirmed by the Ministry of Interior and 57 people who have been injured in Barcelona.

MSC Meraviglia crew not allowed to disembark in New York. New CBP regulation?

After the transatlantic crossing from Kiel, Germany, following stops in Saint John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia the cruise ship MSC Meraviglia finally arrived in New York on 7th of October. The news was broadcasted by all mainstream media as the vessel become the largest ship with 4,488 guests to ever dock in New York. However, as we were informed by several crew members onboard, out of 1500 crew working on the ship only 38 employees were allowed to go ashore.
