Royal Caribbean’s newest ship Star of the Seas is already making waves literally and visually before its official launch. The second ship in the Icon Class was recently spotted at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland testing a never-before-seen dynamic light display on the Royal Caribbean crown and anchor logo.
Captured by local ship enthusiast Janne-Petteri Kumpulainen on June 3, 2025, the stunning light show featured everything from the U.S. and LGBT pride flags to countdown sequences likely intended for the ship’s grand debut and naming ceremony. The vibrant animations appeared on the ship’s illuminated signage and showcased a level of visual flair not previously seen on its sister ship, Icon of the Seas.
“There were all sorts of animations flashing across the Star of the Seas light sign tonight,” Kumpulainen noted. “It looked like they were filming a promotional video, possibly for the shipyard or for internal use. A drone was even flying close to the ship during the sequence.”
This new light display appears to be an upgrade from the lighting system aboard Icon of the Seas, where the crown and anchor logo lights are limited to edge illumination using RGB lighting. On Star, however, the logo appears to support graphics and animations making it a potential showpiece during high-profile events and sail-aways.
