A medical emergency aboard a Silversea Cruises ship docked at Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal has left a 66-year-old American tourist dead, local media reported. The incident occurred late on January 4 when the man collapsed in his cabin aboard the Silver Dawn, prompting an immediate response from the ship’s staff.
Paramedics arrived shortly after the emergency call at 11:59 p.m. and transported the passenger to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death, pending the results of an autopsy, though the individual reportedly had a history of heart disease.
The Silver Dawn, which debuted in 2021, is a luxury cruise ship with a capacity of 596 passengers and a gross tonnage exceeding 40,000. The vessel had docked at Tsim Sha Tsui’s Ocean Terminal at 8 a.m. on January 4 and was scheduled to depart for its next destination at 2 p.m. on January 5. Police boarded the ship following the incident to conduct an investigation.
The ill-fated passenger was on a 22-day cruise that began in Singapore on December 22, 2024. The itinerary includes multiple stops across Asia, with the voyage expected to conclude in Tokyo, Japan, on January 13.
