Gastrointestinal illness on Costa Toscana

Submitted by kgnadmin on

On December 17, 2024, the cruise ship Costa Toscana reported a few cases of gastrointestinal illness among passengers.

In response to the reported cases, Costa Cruises implemented containment measures recommended by health authorities.

These include:
•    Disinfection: The ship underwent meticulous sanitation procedures to reduce contamination risks.
•    Enhanced Hygiene Protocols: Stricter hygiene measures have been enforced to ensure safety.

In a letter Captain Giulio Valestra expressed gratitude for passengers' cooperation and reassured everyone that all measures are being taken to ensure a safe and healthy environment aboard the Costa Toscana.

To help prevent further spread of the illness, all passengers have been advised to follow these key precautions:

1.    Frequent Handwashing: Passengers must wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after:
o    Using the restroom
o    Coughing or sneezing
o    Eating, drinking, or smoking
o    Note: Hand sanitizers are only partially effective and must be used alongside handwashing, not as a substitute.

2.    Avoid Direct Contact: Guests are encouraged to minimize physical interactions such as handshakes.

3.    Use of Cabin Restrooms: Passengers should primarily use their private cabin restrooms to reduce the risk of contamination in shared facilities.

4.    Reporting Symptoms: Passengers experiencing symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea are required to:
o    Return to their cabin immediately
o    Notify the onboard Medical Center by calling (99)

The onboard Medical Center remains fully available to address any health concerns or emergencies. Passengers can contact the Medical Center at extension 99 for immediate assistance.

Costa Toscana currently sails on a 7-day, round-trip Mediterranean cruise from Palermo
