Filipino Crew Member Found Dead On UK-flagged Cruise Ship in Crete

A 49-year-old crew member was found dead aboard a cruise ship docked at the port of Chania, Crete, according to reports from multiple Greek media outlets.

The crew member, a Filipino national who worked as a cook on a UK-flagged cruise ship, was discovered unconscious in his cabin in the early hours of April 26, the Hellenic Coast Guard confirmed in a statement. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hellenic Coast Guard released the following statement:

“Chania Port Authority was informed by the shipping agent of a UK-flagged cruise ship (C/Z) that a 49-year-old foreigner (Philippine national), a crew member (specialty cook), was found unconscious in his cabin.”

The Chania Port Authority, which is leading the preliminary investigation, has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not released the name of the ship. However, according to cruise tracking data, the only UK-flagged cruise ship in the port on April 26, was Majestic Princess, currently sailing a 10-day voyage from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Trieste.
