A Mediterranean cruise turned tragic when a 61-year-old British woman was found lifeless in her cabin aboard a cruise ship anchored off Cannes, France late Saturday night. According to Var-Matin, the discovery was made around 12:30 a.m. while the ship was stationed near the Lérins Islands, off the Croisette.
The ship’s doctor immediately responded and attempted to resuscitate the passenger for more than 30 minutes, but her heartbeat never returned. The woman was officially pronounced dead at the scene.
Crew members alerted local authorities, including the maritime gendarmerie and Cannes police, who reached the ship via an inflatable boat to carry out standard procedures and transfer the body ashore. The woman’s body was examined by a coroner and transported to the Cannes burial ground by firefighters before being returned to her family.
Investigators confirmed that the death was not suspicious and that the passenger likely suffered a heart attack. She had been on board with her family to celebrate her husband’s birthday, a voyage that ended in sudden and heartbreaking tragedy.
