A 35-year-old crew member of the Carnival Sunshine in need of urgent medical attention was evacuated by the US Coast Guard. This medevac took place on April 27, 2024, during a sea day. While the specifics of the crew member's health issue remain confidential, it was deemed serious enough by onboard medical staff to necessitate immediate hospital care.

The evacuation involved a Coast Guard helicopter meeting the Sunshine-class vessel approximately 160 miles east of Jacksonville, Florida, as it was en route to Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. The crew member, accompanied by a nurse, was airlifted from the ship in a dramatic operation. They were then transported safely to the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida, for further medical treatment.

“Earlier today, a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter crew medevaced a 35-year-old crewmember from the cruise ship Carnival Sunshine approximately 160 miles east of Jacksonville, Florida. The helicopter crew hoisted the ailing man along with the ship’s nurse and safely transported them to Home Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida,” the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast said.
