Thomson Spirit runs aground in Portimao, Portugal

The cruise ship Thomson Spirit, with over 1,000 passengers on board, ran aground in the middle of the Arade River in Portugal on Tuesday. The ship operated by the British cruise line Thomson Cruises blocked the river for an hour and a half, after the Captain was forced to abort the docking maneuvers. Thomson Spirit was scheduled to arrive in the port of Portimão at 8:00 a.m. entering the river at low tide.

A 55 year-old German passenger was airlifted from the TUI cruise ship Mein Schiff in Greece on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. According to the press release the German national who was traveling on the Cruise ship near Samos and Ikaria, had cardiac problems. Ship’s Captain notified Greek authorities about the medical emergency. The Coast Guard reacted swiftly by sending Super Puma helicopter in order to transport the passenger to the hospital. The patient was transferred to the Cardiology Hospital in Samos, and is in stable condition.

The cruise line AIDA Cruises has received the German Fairness Prize 2016 for third consecutive time. The German Institute for Service Quality led in cooperation with n-tv by an extensive consumer survey, bringing to about 40,000 customers opinions on more than 500 companies. AIDA has repeatedly ranked first, making it the most valued company in the cruise industry.

Crew Member Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on a Co-worker

Disney Wonder crew member was arrested on sexual assault charges in Cadiz, Spain while the cruise ship was in Dry dock in Navantia shipyard. According to Diario De Cadiz the incident took place on Saturday morning on the ship 'Rhapsody', which serves as hotel for Disney Wonder crew, and other workers during the dry dock.

Pacific Princess Hits Breakwater in Nice

Pacific Princess Compartment Number 2 experienced flooding this morning as the cruise ship tried to dock in the port of Nice, France. The vessel encountered strong winds of 45 knots, which caused Pacific Princess to hit the breakwaters at the dock. Port side of the ship was slightly damaged by the impact. Firefighters and divers responded to the scene and will remain if further assistance is needed.
