Ovation of the Seas Passengers and Crew Missing After New Zealand Volcano Erupts

A horrible tragedy occurred today when guests sailing on the cruise ship Ovation of the Seas visited New Zealand's most active volcano Whakaari on White Island. Tourists have been caught up in the eruption of the volcano resulting in at least five deaths, and 27 people missing report news outlets in New Zealand. There are many people who have been taken to hospital with burns as a result of the eruption.

CBP Restrictions for Cruise Ship Crew in New York and New Jersey

Due to the increased number of crew members who joined cruise lines with the intent of jumping ship and stay in the USA illegally, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) imposed new restrictions. The new temporary restrictions regarding shore leave in the ports in New York (Brooklyn and Manhattan) and New Jersey (Cape Liberty) states that only crew members with completed five contracts can go ashore. This is industry-wide and affects all cruise ships entering these ports.

Several cruise lines have canceled port stops in Barcelona due to the protests and unrests in the capital of Catalonia. The situation in Barcelona is tense and is getting more and more restless after harsh prison sentences handed to the pro-independence leaders by the Spain’s Supreme Court. Since the beginning of the protests are 97 people arrested, as confirmed by the Ministry of Interior and 57 people who have been injured in Barcelona.

In spring 2021, Grandeur of the Seas will leave Royal Caribbean fleet and join the sister brand, Pullmantur Cruises.

During her 23 years with Royal Caribbean, Grandeur of the Seas has sailed a variety of European and Caribbean itineraries and most recently found a home in the Northeast, departing from her homeport Baltimore, Maryland.

Reckless behavior of a passenger reported on Allure of the Seas

A passenger on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Allure of the Seas was photographed standing on the opposite side of the balcony railings, dangerously close to the edge of the ship. The photo was posted in a popular Royal Caribbean Facebook group by Peter Blosic, who has witnessed this dangerous behavior and shot the photo yesterday while the ship was at sea. According to his comment, he showed the photo of the woman standing on the opposite side of the balcony railing and alerted the concierge.

Tragedy On Rhapsody Of The Seas, Crew Member Dies In Croatia

Royal Caribbean crew member died under tragic circumstances on board the cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas on 22 September. The vessel was docked in the Croatian popular cruise port of Dubrovnik, Gruz, when a crew member was reported overboard. According to Croatian media, the tragedy struck just after 2 pm local time. 

Empress of the Seas Cancels San Juan due to safety concerns

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Empress of the Seas, decided to cancel scheduled arrival to San Juan due to safety concerns over protests which started yesterday, calling for Puerto Rico Governor Ricard Orossello to step down. According to the latest reports the vessel is being re-routed to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and all guests will receive refunds for prepaid shore excursions scheduled for San Juan.
