Robert Downey Jr. Christens Disney Adventure in Singapore

Disney Cruise Line officially christened its newest and largest ship, Disney Adventure, on March 4 at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, marking a major milestone as the company launches its first cruise ship dedicated to the Asian market.

The ceremony featured Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr., who was recently named the ship’s official godparent. Best known for playing Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man films, Downey made a dramatic entrance during the ceremony, appearing onstage through a plume of smoke following a musical performance featuring classic Disney songs.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, welcomed the actor onstage and joked that the ship might require a “big blessing.” Downey responded with a nod to his famous Marvel line, saying, “I have three words for you: I’m your guy.”

He then delivered the traditional maritime blessing, declaring: “I christen the Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship and all who sail upon it.”

The 6,700-passenger Disney Adventure arrived in Singapore on March 3 to fireworks and a ceremonial water salute. The vessel will be homeported in Singapore for at least five years, strengthening the city’s position as one of Asia’s leading cruise hubs.

Following the ceremony, Disney Cruise Line and its partners — including the Singapore Tourism Board and Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore — held a plaque exchange to mark the ship’s official debut.

“This is a historic milestone as the first Disney cruise ship establishes a home in Asia right here in Singapore,” said Melissa Ow, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board.

Disney Adventure will begin its first public sailing on March 10, bringing Disney’s signature entertainment, themed attractions, and family experiences to travelers across the region.
