Odyssey of the Seas Crew Rescues 77 Migrants

Submitted by kgnadmin on

The cruise ship Odyssey of the Seas rescued 77 migrants after their boat was adrift in the Mediterranean Sea. The rescue operation took place on August 5, while the ship was sailing on a 7-day Greek Isles voyage. Under the leadership of Captain Marek, the crew saved all the migrants, providing them with medical care, food, and shelter.

A crew member from the Odyssey of the Seas, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared the following account: "77 passengers were saved last night around 21:30 by Odyssey of the Seas in the Mediterranean Sea. I heard the news onboard that they are immigrants. Unfortunately, their ship capsized because of a fire. We made a full stop on that red spot; I heard they were at sea for four days."

In response to the rescue, the crew executed a full stop at the location to bring the stranded people aboard.

Greek media reports that the ship is now en route to the port of Kalamata, where the migrants are expected to disembark. Upon arrival, they will be registered by the city's central port authority and temporarily accommodated in the area. Plans are in place for the migrants to move to organized accommodation facilities within the country.

Preparations are underway at the port, where the rescued individuals will be accommodated with the support of the social services and civil protection of the municipality of Kalamata. Assistance from the Peloponnese Region and the Red Cross is also being mobilized to ensure the migrants' needs are met.

Kudos to the Odyssey of the Seas crew who demonstrated courage and compassion in the face of a challenging situation, providing a lifeline to those in need.
