Norwegian Cruise Line announced changes to its shipboard grooming policy for the crew, officers, and staff. Starting July 1st, all shipboard employees will be allowed tattoos, piercing, and men can have a beard.

In a letter, the company informed its crew about the latest grooming guidelines and noticeable changes which include:

• Facial hair such as mustaches, beards, goatees, and chin/lower lip tuffs are permitted if they are neatly trimmed and well-maintained. Mustaches cannot be grown over the length of the upper lip.

• A maximum of three bracelets are allowed and must be in good condition. Food and Beverage Exceptions: While preparing food, team members, including bartenders, must not wear jewelry on their arms and hands; this includes watches

• A maximum of three rings are allowed. Engagement/wedding band counts as one ring. Food employees may wear a total of one plain ring such as a smooth, simple wedding band.

• A maximum of 2 small stud earrings or hoops no larger than a dime ($0. Ocent coin) are allowed

Tattoos are permitted except:

•  All visible tattoos on the face, head, or front of the neck (above a standard T-shirt collar).

• All tattoos, regardless of location on the body, which are extremist, indecent, sexist, or racist. Extremist tattoos are those affiliated with, depicting or symbolizing extremist philosophies, organizations, gangs, or activities; those which advocate racial, gender or ethnic hatred, or intolerance; advocate, create or engage in discrimination based on race, color, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin; or advocate violence or other unlawful activities.

• Indecent tattoos are those that are offensive and vulgar.

• Sexist tattoos are those that advocate a philosophy that degrades or demeans a person based on gender, but that may not meet the same definition of "indecent".

• No visible tattoos can be engraved during your employment with the company.
