Icon of the Seas Returns to Ponce After Onboard Medical Emergency

Royal Caribbean’s flagship Icon of the Seas made an unexpected return to the Port of Ponce Wednesday afternoon. According to a statement from the Municipality of Ponce, an 80-year-old female passenger from Trinidad & Tobago experienced a medical emergency aboard the world’s largest cruise ship.

 


Mayor Marlese Sifre confirmed that, following standard medical protocols, the ship coordinated with the Municipal Office for Emergency Management (OMME), Ponce Port Authority, and local police to safely transport the passenger to a nearby hospital. She is now reported to be in stable condition. The ship continued its journey after the transfer, with family members staying behind to support her.

 


Icon of the Seas is on a 7-night roundtrip Eastern Caribbean cruise from Miami. Incident timing: The ship returned to Ponce for medical emergency on June 25th. Local authorities confirmed the cruise line activated its medical protocols, and the passenger is now stable under medical care.
