Cruise Ship Life - Working On Board Carnival

Submitted by kgnadmin on

So when I told people I worked on board a cruise ship, they all had this vision in their head that I was just on a constant vacation. Or I may have been only enjoyng cruise ship, but the fact that I was on a constant vacation made it not as bad. These are incorrect. The fact of the matter is this " Your Vacation is My Life". That was crew memberssecret motto to everyone who seemed jealous of us because we worked on cruise ship. The truth of the matter is yeah we were in some pretty amazing and beautiful places 90% of the time. Funny thing, is we did not get to enjoy them as much unless it was just looking at them. A majority of the time you were torn between getting off the ship to walk around, grab good food or find free wifi to talk to your family at home.

Occasionally certain cruise ships and their itinerary had ways of really enjoying a port and the remainder of that day. For example, on the Destiny we would be in Cozumel from 1pm until 10 pm. That was awesome. We would be off the ship all day have lunch, enjoy a lot of drinks by the pool at this awesome Crew bar place and then have Dinner. Sure the lots of drinks would be a bad idea for a normal port day, but it turned out our Cozumel evening on board consisted of The Deck Party and that was it. So sure, you could come back feeling a little good and then just have to dance around for an hour before heading back to the Crew Bar for some more beverages.

We also found little adventures that you can do in other ports. Which brings me to the video of the day! While in Nassau, there are only a handful of things to do. The most important one is to go to the video store and pick up some movies. Now these were all "bootleg" movies, but when you work on a ship that does not have a port with a movie theater that is easily accessed, this is your only way to see the new movies! How the heck do you think I first enjoyed The Avengers?

But my main favorite thing to do in Nassau was to go visit The Atlantis. Mainly because its beautiful and the Aquarium is amazing. The other great part is there's a little cafe in the casino and its just nice sometimes to go walk around the Casino and try your luck and then grab a bite to eat after enjoying your day there. This video is the best example of what could potentially happen when visiting The Atlantis and you decide to pop some money in a slot machine!

So please, enjoy a glimpse of what Crew Members do while in port!

The other people in the Video are Dan who was the Light Tech , Rachael and Chelsea who were both entertainment hosts with me.
