Costa Smeralda Completes First LNG Bunkering in Dubai

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Costa Smeralda, the flagship of the Costa Cruises fleet, has successfully completed the liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering in Dubai. The operation, carried out by the Green Zeebrugge tanker, filled the ship's three cryogenic steel tanks with 3,000 cubic meters of LNG. This fuel will power the ship’s engines for at least two and a half weeks.

This historic LNG bunkering was made possible through the collaboration between logistics provider Monjasa and the Dubai Port Authority. Costa, part of Carnival Corporation, continues to lead the way in sustainable cruising, being the first cruise line to introduce LNG technology in Dubai.

Costa Smeralda arrived in Dubai on December 21, after completing a repositioning cruise around Africa. The ship will depart on March 1 for a 37-day journey to the Mediterranean, visiting destinations such as Oman, Mauritius, South Africa, and Morocco, before arriving in Genoa on April 7.
