The largest ship ever built for the Carnival Cruise Line fleet "Carnival Vista" is conducting sea trials. Starting from today Carnival Vista will spend a few days at sea to test the performance and the general seaworthiness. The tests will cover the propulsion system, speed, maneuverability, stabilizers, and the safety features (fire and rescue). One of the tests that will be performed is the Crash stop. The ship is driven at full speed and then the propulsion system is switched off to see the distance and the time needed for the ship to stop completely.
Carnival Vista will be delivered to Carnival Cruise Line in April and crew will begin to arrive on April 12 to make final preparations. The maiden voyage is scheduled for 1 May 2016 with a 13 nights Mediterranean cruise. After a season in Europe, the ship will head to its homeport in Miami, Florida, in the fall of 2016 with weekly cruises to the Caribbean. The Italian shipyard Fincantieri has consolidated, once again, its leadership in the construction of the largest passenger ships in the history of Italian shipbuilding.
Carnival Vista weight of 133,500 gross tones and 321 meters in length, makes it the largest ship ever built by Fincantieri for the fleet of Carnival Cruise Line. The ship will have 1,967 cabins, to which are added 785 for the crew, allowing them to accommodate more than 6,400 passengers and crew on board.
