A group of cruise ship passengers were robbed in a restaurant located in the center of Split, Croatia. As the footage from the surveillance camera in the restaurant shows a middle-aged man in blue jeans, a light blue shirt and short hair carefully entered the restaurant and looked around the dining room. After few seconds he sat on a small table just behind the group of eight Spanish tourists who were sailing on the cruise ship MSC Sinfonia. The thief targeted a black backpack hanging on the chair and tried to steel it by covering with his jacket. First he didn’t succeed, the second attempt was interrupted by a man at the table who suddenly stood up, but on the third attempt he grabbed the backpack and walked out of the restaurant.

“In the dining room there were 11 people, and the terrace was packed with guests. No one can believe that the thief will dare to such a thing, in a place with so many people. If I had not seen it on camera, I would not believe it.” Said the owner of the restaurant Corto Maltese.

The backpack didn’t contain any valuables, however inside were four passports that the Spanish tourist needed in order to get back home at the end of the cruise. The tourists didn’t have time to report the robbery to the police because they needed to get back on the ship in half an hour. The owner of the restaurant reported the theft by phone and hopes that the police will find the man. The cruise ship MSC Sinfonia is currently in Mykonos, Greece and will be back in Croatia on July 21 in the port of Dubrovnik.

The cruise ship MSC Sinfonia is on a 7 Nights Mediterranean Cruise  departing from Ancona, Italy on 15 July to Venice, Split, Santorini, Mykonos, and Dubrovnik.
