Technical Issue Forces Celebrity Infinity to Remain in Port

The cruise ship Celebrity Infinity is stranded in the Turkish port of Kuşadası following a power failure caused by an apparent small electrical fire.
Celebrity Infinity was scheduled to depart Kuşadası on July 7 and sail to Mykonos, Greece, the following day. Instead, the ship has been docked for at least two days, with ongoing technical issues delaying departure until at least the evening of July 9.

A power outage struck the ship while it was docked, leaving cabins without air conditioning or lighting and halting food service.

“It was a total blackout for a few hours… No power meant no communications, no power to rooms, no AC, delayed shows, delayed meals,” one passenger wrote on on social media. “It was a very hot day in Turkey today as well, so that added to the pressure.”

Passengers reported that a small electrical fire was announced on July 8 while many guests were ashore. Overnight testing revealed additional technical faults, requiring more extensive repairs and the involvement of external specialists, who were flown in to assist.

Due to the extended stay in Turkey, Celebrity Infinity will no longer visit Kavala, Greece, as originally scheduled. Guests were informed of the change via a letter distributed onboard, which emphasized that the decision was made “with the utmost consideration for gusts safety and comfort.”

To compensate for the missed port, Celebrity Cruises is offering refundable onboard credits, depending on the stateroom category:
• Inside and Outside cabins: $200 USD
• Balcony cabins: $300 USD
• Concierge and AquaClass: $400 USD
• Deluxe Suites: $600 USD
• 3rd and 4th passengers: $50 USD each

In an effort to preserve the guest experience, Celebrity is reportedly planning to replace the July 11 sea day with a stop in Mykonos, one of the most anticipated destinations on the itinerary. However, this plan remains tentative.

Despite the setbacks, Celebrity Infinity is still expected to arrive in Athens (Piraeus), Greece, on July 12, where guests will disembark as originally planned.
