Avora Residences announced it has secured the Seven Seas Navigator through a long-term agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and plans to relaunch it in January 2028 as Avora Lumina, a residential cruise ship designed for long-term living at sea.
The ship will be transformed into a floating residential community for people who want to live and travel around the world full-time.
The agreement is structured as a nine-year charter with a nominal purchase option, creating a long-term operational relationship with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH).
“Residential cruising has proven its viability,” said Mikael Petterson, Founder of Avora Residences and Villa Vie. “Avora Lumina represents the next evolution — purpose-built for long-duration global living, expedition capability, and a more refined residential experience.”
The project positions Avora’s new platform between the contemporary residential offering of Villa Vie Residences and the ultra-exclusive model of the long-established residential ship The World.
Avora says it intends to preserve much of the operational structure that has defined Navigator during its years with Regent.
“Our philosophy is evolution, not disruption,” said Kathy Villalba, Co-Founder and CEO of Avora Residences. “Navigator has a soul — built through years of disciplined operations, experienced crews, and trusted relationships. We intend to honor that legacy while transforming the ship into a true long-term residential platform.”
Once launched, Avora Lumina will depart Lisbon, Portugal, beginning an ambitious three-year global circumnavigation.
The itinerary is expected to include
• More than 140 countries
• Over 400 destinations
• Visits across all seven continents
Unlike typical cruise itineraries, the ship will remain in port for up to five days at a time, allowing residents to explore destinations in depth.
