The German police are investigating two fires that broke out on the cruise ship Arvia, which is currently under construction at Meyer-Werft Shipyard in Papenburg. The small fires that broke out two weeks ago were located at the storage room where workers found a burning garbage bag, and inside a nearly completed cabin, said the police spokesperson. During the incident, one security guard was hospitalized and treated for smoke inhalation. Meyer-Werft fire brigade and the fire brigades from Papenburg and Aschendorf arrived at the site and were able to quickly extinguish the fires.
The initial damages to the ship are estimated at around 60.000 Euros, and the police is investigating all scenarios saying that arson cannot be ruled out, German news outlets report.
