Pacific Princess Compartment Number 2 experienced flooding this morning as the cruise ship tried to dock in the port of Nice, France. The vessel encountered strong winds of 45 knots, which caused Pacific Princess to hit the breakwaters at the dock. Port side of the ship was slightly damaged by the impact. Firefighters and divers responded to the scene and will remain if further assistance is needed. According to Princess Cruises there are no injured passengers or crew.
NiceMatin news released a statement from one passenger on board saying "We felt the ship scrape the port the side. The captain told us later that the ship had hit the rocks. It was indicated that there was a flooding in one compartment, but nothing serious. For now, we're stuck here in Nice and we do not know for how long. We do not know if we will be able to continue our cruise. "
Princess Cruises on their twitter account said “Pacific Princess is safely alongside. One compartment experienced flooding. All guests and crew safe.”
According to the cruise itinerary, the ship arrived at 6:15 a.m. on Friday morning, and was scheduled to depart at 5 p.m. however the ship will remain in the port for further inspection and repairs.
