Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported norovirus outbreak on board Ocean Princess cruise ship operated by Princess Cruises. According to CDC 43 out of 603 passengers or (7.13%) have reported being ill with gastrointestinal symptoms. Also there were reported 5 crew members out of 387 (1.29%)with predominant symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. This is second Princess cruise ship this year with norovirus outbreak after Crown Princess reported 184 cases on January 8 - 18, 2016 voyage.
Following USPH standards, Princess Cruises crew on board will execute the following actions:
-Deep cleaning and sanitation procedures according to the ships outbreak prevention and response plan
-Collecting stool samples from pax and crew showing signs of gastrointestinal illness for testing.
-Reporting daily to the VSP of gastrointestinal cases,
Ocean Princess will leave the United States on March 7, 2016, for scheduled dry dock.
In 2015 3 out of 12 cruise ships reported with norovirus by CDC were Princess cruise ships.
In 2014 3 out of 9 cruise ships reported with norovirus by CDC were Princess cruise ships.
In 2012 record number of Princess cruise ships reported norovirus outbreak with 7 out of 16 according to CDC reports.
