Due to strong winds at the port of Civitavecchia today, MSC Magnifica hit the pier minutes after the cruise ship departed with new passengers. The collision was caused by rapid change of the wind speed – from 9 to 40 knots in less than a minute, pushing the 293-meter long vessel to the pier which sustained some damage to the portside. Watertight doors were closed, at the time of the accident and passengers were called to their muster stations as a precaution measure.

Sib Hashian, the drummer who played on the first two hit albums of the legendary rock group Boston, has died at the age of 67. Brazil Federal Police arrested a 39-year-old woman with 4.5 kilos of cocaine in Buzios. The cocaine was hidden in an abdominal strap and the woman was caught trying to bring the drugs onboard the cruise ship MSC Splendida. According to the officials, the drug was found by federal officers of the Bureau of Macae, in Rio, conducting routine inspection with the ship's passengers. The agents suspected of the unusual volume in woman’s abdomen and her suspicious behavior. A policewoman made a personal search and located the cocaine packages.

Brazilian Media reports that a man who was part of the MSC Magnifica crew died on Sunday evening. The cruise ship was docked in the Port of Santos when this tragic event occurred. Preliminary reports say that the man had cardiac arrest just moments before the ship docked in Santos. Mobile Emergency Team was dispatched to the vessel as soon as MSC Magnifica docked to provide first-aid CPR to revive the man, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.
