MSC Group and MSC Foundation Support Earthquake Relief Efforts in Turkey and Syria

Submitted by kgnadmin on

The MSC Group and the MSC Foundation have organized urgent aid and accommodation to support the population in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Türkiye and Syria in close coordination with national authorities.

On February 16, 2023, the MSC Aurelia set sail from the Port of Naples towards the Port of Iskenderun, Turkey carrying basic necessities and first aid items collected by the MSC Group and the MSC Foundation, as well as the Rava Foundation. The vessel, which typically operates as a passenger and vehicle ferry, has a cargo capacity of 40 trucks and 400+ cars.

Upon arrival, the MSC Aurelia will serve as emergency accommodation for impacted communities, offering over 1,000 beds and leisure spaces such as a restaurant, cinema, and video-game entertainment for children. The MSC Group and the MSC Foundation aim to provide aid and support to those in need by identifying the most pressing needs and taking targeted and timely action.

In addition to the aid carried by the MSC Aurelia, the press release stated that another 100 containers of first aid supplies, including blankets, mattresses, sleeping bags, kitchen sets, jerry cans, and lamps, will be departing from Jordan via Haifa, where they will be stored in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)'s warehouses.

To continue assisting, the MSC Group and the MSC Foundation are seeking financial support, and they urge others to join them in making a positive impact in the lives of those who are suffering.
