MSC Cruises To Develop New Private Island in Bahamas ‘Little Cay’

MSC Cruises is doubling down on its commitment to private island experiences in the Caribbean with the construction of a second exclusive destination in the Bahamas. The new site, currently known as “Little Cay,” is located just north of Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the company’s existing private island.
The project, still in its early development phase, aims to deliver an upscale alternative that complements Ocean Cay rather than replicates it.

Built on a natural sandbank formed during earlier dredging work for Ocean Cay’s channel and turning basin, Little Cay is expected to be about one-third the size of Ocean Cay. MSC Cruises said the new island will offer guests “a luxury experience deeply connected to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean.”

In a statement, the company confirmed that the island will feature lux amenities, seaside relaxation areas, and nature-integrated design, although further details are still forthcoming. “We design the island to be an incredible luxury experience,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group. “We’re very proud and very happy to have developed again something from nothing like this so we don’t spoil the existing paradise.”

Luxury Market Speculation
While MSC has not officially stated which ships or guest segments will call at Little Cay, industry observers believe the island could serve as a dedicated retreat for passengers of the MSC Yacht Club or Explora Journeys, the company’s luxury cruise line.

There is also speculation about how guests will access the new island. Whether it will include a dedicated pier or rely on tender boats remains unclear. Meanwhile, plans are under consideration to expand capacity at Ocean Cay itself, including a potential second berth for larger-scale ship visits.

A timeline for completion of Little Cay has not been announced, and MSC says more details will emerge as the project progresses. For now, the island’s construction is a significant step in MSC’s ongoing investment in the Bahamas and its continued push to elevate private island cruising experiences.
