Man Tries to Climb Carnival Cruise Ship Using Mooring Rope

In one of the more bizarre scenes Sydney’s Circular Quay has seen lately, a man tried to board a cruise ship by climbing the ropes that connect it to the dock. Forget boarding passes—this guy went full DIY.

The 29-year-old man was spotted around 3 p.m. on Saturday attempting to scale the mooring lines of Carnival Adventure, which was docked and preparing for a 9-day cruise to the Great Barrier Reef. His strange stunt quickly drew a crowd of onlookers, some filming and jokingly calling him “Spider-Man” on social media.

Unfortunately for him, cruise ships aren’t built for rope access boarding. Police were called to the scene, where they found the man clinging to the rope high above Sydney Harbour. A police boat pulled up underneath as the rope was slowly lowered, allowing officers to bring him safely down before he took an unplanned dive.

Once back on dry land, the man was escorted away by police officers and taken to station. He was charged with multiple offences, including entering restricted land-side and water-side areas without permission, and skipping security screening.
