Police arrested a man who jumped from a cruise ship and swam ashore at the port of Naha, Japan. The incident unfolded on the evening of February 1, when a cruise ship agent called the fire department to report that a person who appeared to be a man had jumped into the sea. When the fire department and others searched the sea and surrounding area, the man was found on the quay. The person, identified as Duman Alper, a Turkish national, was arrested on suspicion of illegal landing, reports NHK. According to the police, the suspect violated the Immigration Control Act by jumping into the sea from a cruise ship moored at the second cruise berth in Minato Town, Naha City, landing illegally.

In response to the investigation, the man denied the charges, saying, “I was not aware that I landed illegally.''

According to the ship's agent, the cruise ship from which the man jumped is the MSC Bellissima, operated by MSC Cruises. The police didn’t say whether the man was a passenger or a crew member aboard the ship.
