Yesterday's Boarding on the cruise ship Freedom of the Seas has been delayed at Port Everglades Pier 29 for two hours due to a security alert. According to the media report, the terminal went on lockdown after a K9 bomb-sniffing dog thought he smelled something suspicious in what was on a pallet which needed to be loaded on the ship. The suspicious pallet was offloaded on the pier by a truck bringing supplies to the Freedom of the Seas in Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale.
All Passengers were evacuated, and the terminal was put on lockdown while Broward Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad checked the pallet. Luckily nothing suspicious was found and Freedom of the Seas was cleared to resume boarding.

After the lockdown, there was a long line of passengers in front of the pier waiting to board the ship. Todd N Dereka, one of the passengers waiting to board shot the following video saying “Waiting for over 2 hours to board Freedom of the Seas Royal Caribbean Pier 29. Port Everglades. Heard there was a threat. Not sure what's going on but people have been in the heat with their luggage for hours!”

Royal Caribbean International has sent the following message to the passengers boarding the current voyage on Freedom of the Seas "Dear Guests. We are reaching out with important boarding information for your Freedom of the Seas sailing today. Boarding has started for your upcoming vacation, however, we have been notified of increased traffic and long lines at Port Everglades. If you haven’t already arrived to the port, we recommend delaying your arrival to 3pm to avoid the long lines. While the ship is scheduled to leave at 5:30 PM, rest assured we will not set sail until all guests have boarded. We are sorry for the impact this has had to the start of your vacation, but know once onboard you'll have a wonderful cruise."
