Viking Ocean Cruises has revealed the plans for the construction of four more cruise ships. With these new units, Viking’s ocean cruise fleet will reach 10 cruise ships by the end of 2023. Viking has announced the news of these additional orders as the cruise line was celebrating the kickoff of its sold-out 141-day inaugural world cruise.
All new ships will be the same “Star” class vessels. These are units with a gross tonnage of 47,800 tons, which can accommodate 930 passengers on board in 465 cabins, all with a veranda, built according to the latest navigation regulations and equipped with the most modern security systems, including the "Safe return" to port ".
The first Viking Ocean Cruises ship of the series, "Viking Star", build at the Marghera shipyard in Italy, took the sea in March 2015, the second, third and fourth, "Viking Sea", "Viking Sky", "Viking Sun" built by the shipyard of Ancona, were delivered respectively in March 2016, January 2017 and September 2017. The additional 6 twins, including those related to the option exercised, will be delivered in 2018, 2019, 2021, two in 2022 and 2023.
By 2023 Viking will have a capacity of 5,580 berths, which will make it the largest small ship cruise line in the world. It will have far more berths than its competitors, such as Crystal Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea Cruises, Seabourn and Azamara Club Cruises.
