The German Meyer Werft shipbuilding dock 2 was evacuated today due to a fire that started during construction works on Norwegian Cruise Line latest ship, Norwegian Joy. According to Meyer Werft spokesman Gunther Kolbe, the fire started at around 7 a.m. at a junction box of the cruise ship. All workers were evacuated from the affected production area and firefighting teams were send to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished and there are no injured workers. The initial amount of damages caused by the fire is estimated at $60,000. The completion of "Norwegian Joy ' is not compromised. The cruise ship for the US shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line will be delivered in the spring 2017, as scheduled.
The sister ship of Norwegian Escape will be delivered as the second ship of the Breakaway PLUS-Class. Once completed, Norwegian Joy will set sail to China in the summer 2017. The vessel is developed specifically for the Asian market.
