Submitted by kgnadmin on

The construction of TUI Cruises newest ship the Mein Schiff 7, built at Meyer Turku in Finland is approaching completion. The cruise line released details of the ship's environmental innovations, and the events surrounding its maiden voyage, as well as the ship's godmother.

The naming ceremony of Mein Schiff 7 is scheduled for June 22, 2024, in the Bay of Kiel. TUI Cruises has chosen Fenia Kalachani, an environmental officer who has been with the Mein Schiff fleet since 2022, as the godmother of the ship. Fenia Kalachani is responsible, together with her environmental officer colleagues, for the implementation and compliance with all relevant environmental regulations on board the Mein Schiff fleet. Her role as godmother emphasizes the ship's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

“As an environmental officer, I am pleased to be able to contribute to ensuring that our guests experience how seriously we take environmental protection and the responsible and sustainable use of resources on board. It is a particularly great honor for me that I am now the godmother for the Mein Schiff 7 - on behalf of the entire Mein Schiff crew. This sister ship of Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 is a good example of how innovative cruises can be in the areas of the environment and sustainability.”

The maiden voyage of Mein Schiff 7 begins on June 21, 2024, from Kiel. The ship will depart on a panoramic voyage through the Danish South Sea and return to Kiel on June 23, where it will participate in the Kiel Week celebrations. During the christening voyage, guests will be treated to a range of new features aboard the ship, including a new entertainment show, performances by notable artists, and various culinary and musical surprises. This voyage aims to provide an immersive experience of luxury and discovery, consistent with the CEO Wybcke Meier’s vision of discovering "seventh heaven at sea."

Environmental Innovations

In alignment with global sustainability efforts, Mein Schiff 7 showcases several environmental advancements:

• The ship will operate on low-emission marine diesel with a maximum sulfur content of 0.1% and is equipped with catalytic converters that reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by about 75%.

• It includes a shore power connection and is designed for future operation on methanol, including green methanol, which would enable nearly CO2-neutral propulsion.

• The introduction of the Hydro-Treat system on Mein Schiff 7 represents a forward-thinking approach to waste management. This system processes organic waste through thermal treatment, turning it into biochar that can be utilized on land, thereby achieving more efficient and recyclable waste processing.
