Disney Kicks Off Construction on New Cruise Ship

At a shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, Disney held a traditional steel cutting ceremony to kick off the build. It’s the first major step in making a cruise ship, where a giant machine cuts the very first piece of steel. This marks the beginning of the ship’s journey from concept to reality.

This upcoming vessel will be the fourth in Disney’s Wish-class series, following the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and the recently revealed Disney Destiny. While the name and other details of this new ship haven’t been announced yet, it’s already expected to feature the same mix of cutting-edge design, Disney storytelling, and family-friendly fun that fans love.

The ship will offer new entertainment, immersive experiences, and plenty of Disney-themed magic onboard—though we’ll have to wait a bit longer to learn exactly what that includes.

Meanwhile, there’s more action happening at the shipyard. The Disney Destiny, Disney’s next ship, is about to "float out" of the construction hall—meaning it’ll touch water for the first time. This is a major milestone, as it signals the final phase of building: installing the interior spaces and testing the ship’s systems. The Destiny is on track to set sail on its first voyage in November 2025.
