Disney Cruise Line to Built Smaller, More Efficient Ships by 2031

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Disney Cruise Line has revealed plans for a new class of smaller, fuel-efficient ships, with three of the four upcoming vessels designed at approximately 100,000 gross registered tons and a capacity for 3,000 guests. The fourth ship will be another Wish-class vessel, accommodating 4,000 passengers and powered by LNG.

The new ships, to be delivered between 2027 and 2031, will utilize alternative fuels such as methanol and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), aligning with Disney’s environmental goals. These ships will also feature shore power connectivity and lighter, energy-efficient designs, offering new onboard experiences and access to smaller, eco-conscious destinations.

Philip Gennotte, of Walt Disney Imagineering, emphasized the focus on sustainability, stating, “Guests will see the difference — from a more hydrodynamic design to lighter materials and energy-efficient technology throughout.”

With the addition of these ships, Disney Cruise Line’s fleet will expand to 13 vessels, including Disney Adventure, set to debut in 2025 as the first Disney ship to homeport in Asia. This new phase marks Disney’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship in the cruising industry.
