Dirt Racing Legend Gary Tomkins Celebrates 60th Birthday on Icon of the Seas

American dirt racing veteran Gary Tomkins marked a special milestone this week, celebrating his 60th birthday aboard the world’s largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, surrounded by family and ocean views.

Tomkins shared that he was joined onboard by his son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, describing the trip as a memorable family celebration at sea.

“Celebrating Gary’s 60th birthday aboard the Icon of the Seas with our son, daughter-in-law, and two beautiful grandchildren. Nothing better than making memories together at sea,” the family wrote.

A Legendary Career in Dirt Modified Racing

Born on March 4, 1966, Tomkins is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished drivers in DIRTcar racing history.

Over the course of his career, he has accumulated 146 feature race victories across dirt tracks in the United States, Canada, and Australia, making him a familiar and respected name in the world of dirt modified racing.

Among his most notable achievements is winning the prestigious Mr. DIRT Series Championship, one of the top honors in the sport. The championship recognizes the best-performing driver across a season of highly competitive dirt modified races.

Hall of Fame Recognition

Tomkins’ contributions to the sport are now being recognized at the highest level. He has been selected for induction into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame, an institution dedicated to honoring the legends of dirt modified racing.

The official induction ceremony will take place on July 10 at the Hall of Fame Museum located on the grounds of Weedsport Speedway in New York. The event will be free and open to the public, allowing fans and fellow racers to celebrate Tomkins’ long and successful career.
