The Cuban Democracy Movement has called a protest in front of Carnival Corporation Headquarters in Miami, regarding the latest discriminatory policy imposed against Cubans living in the United States. Current Cuban laws prohibit individuals born in Cuba from entering the island on ship or other maritime vessels, regardless of their US citizenship. For that reason, at this time Carnival Operated cruise ship, Fathom can not accommodate individuals born in Cuba. The world 's biggest cruise operator will start operating the new trips in May and has rejected several reservations by customers born in Cuba.

The Democracy Movement will protest on April 12 at 12:00 pm at Carnival Corporate Offices under the slogan "Stop Carnival Nationality Apartheid". At the same time there will be protest at sea with a naval flotilla in Biscayne Bay, led by the ship 'Democracy', said Luis Felipe Rojas, a member of the movement. The Cuban Democracy Movement hopes that Carnival Corporation will review their decision to sail to Cuba under this discriminatory policy.  

Carnival released a statement saying: "It is our policy to obey the regulations and laws of the countries we sail to around the world. However, we have requested a reconsideration of this regulation. We understand and empathize with the concerns being voiced and will continue to work the issue with Cuban officials. Our hope and intention is that we can travel with everyone."
