Crew Member Reports Sexual Assault Aboard Costa Favolosa

A disturbing incident was reported aboard the cruise ship Costa Favolosa on Thursday, October 9, involving the alleged sexual assault of a female crew member in her cabin.

According to reports, a man used a key card to gain unauthorized access to the victim’s cabin during the night and began groping the sleeping woman. The crew member awoke and attempted to defend herself, prompting the man to flee—possibly into another cabin on the same deck. The victim could not identify the assailant, who is believed to be another crew member. However, surveillance cameras in the crew corridors could assist investigators in identifying the individual responsible.

The woman was immediately taken to Galliera Hospital in Genoa, where she received medical care and support under the women’s protection program for victims of violence. Costa Cruises’ Care Team also provided direct assistance both onboard and onshore. The crew member has filed a formal complaint with judicial authorities.

In a statement shared with local media, Costa Cruises confirmed that the ship's command had been notified of the incident while the Costa Favolosa was en route to Genoa, its scheduled port of call. The company stated that all necessary actions had been taken in accordance with internal protocols and that it is fully cooperating with authorities investigating the case.

Costa said it remains committed to supporting the affected crew member and ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel onboard.
