Costa Group announced the appointment of CEO Michael Thamm as chief executive of Carnival Asia. Mr. Thamm will oversee operations in China and the region as part of his expanded role. He will be CEO of Carnival Asia in the future, assuming responsibility for the Asian business of Carnival Corp. In addition to his previous role as CEO of Costa Group his new tasks will include the promotion of strategic cooperation with the Chinese government and the business partners of the cruise company on-site as well as the establishment of a long-term and sustainable cruise industry in China. Michael Thamm has been CEO of the Costa Group since July 1, 2012, and was previously CEO of AIDA Cruises. In addition to his role in Asia, he will continue to manage the global business of the Costa Group.

Carnival Corporation merged with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and CIC Capital Corporation to form a joint venture in China. The goal is to introduce the first multi-vessel domestic cruise ship in the premium segment that uses ships purchased from the existing fleet of the Carnival Corporation and has its home port in China.
