The activities are part of an exercise aimed for improving techniques at sea in counterterrorism. The name of the exercise is JCET, Joint Combined Exchange Training. JCET represents an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences between special operations units in Brazil and the United States.
Taking place in Rio de Janeiro in order for better preparedness for the Olympic Games 2016, the exercise involves around 100 people, including military and police, aims among other objectives to improve the techniques used by GRUMEC (Grouping Combat Divers) by Toneleiro Battalion (Special Operations Marine), the COT-PF (Tactical Operations Command of the Federal Police) and the US Navy SEALS. All this exercise can be used in the events of emergency for the Olympic Games, which will take place in August this year.
This exercise scenario included a simulated hijacking of a Ship by terrorists, in front of the Command of the Brazil Navy, at Mocanguê Island. The JCET teams, would come to the resumption of control of the vessel. For this, two speedboats and a helicopter was used. The team's first boat will ensure the safety of the ship's external area, while the teams of the second boat and helicopter embark on ship together to sweep the interior of the vessel from two different directions.
Captain Luis Guilherme Rabello Rabello, who is in charge of the operation, said “Following an increase in terrorist attacks around the world in recent months, security officials at the Olympic Games have decided to include the profiling of these attacks in their training and planning.”
Two cruise ships will be docked in Rio de Janeiro for the entire duration of the Olympic Games as well as other ships and yachts. The US Basketball Dream Team will be staying in the luxury cruise ship Silver Cloud.
