What Are Princess Cruises Policies on Crew Tattoos?

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Tattoos have become an increasingly popular form of self-expression, allowing people to showcase their personality, beliefs, and artistry. However, in professional environment especially within the cruise industry, maintaining a polished and guest-appropriate appearance is essential. Princess Cruises acknowledges the importance of self-expression while ensuring that crew members adhere to guidelines that align with the company’s image and standards.

Princess Cruises General Tattoo Policy
Princess Cruises recognizes that personal appearance is an important aspect of self-expression. While the company does not seek to control or dictate the appearance of crew members while off duty, it expects all team members to exercise appropriate judgment in their professional presentation. Ensuring a respectful and guest-appropriate environment remains a top priority.

Princess Cruises allows reasonable self-expression through the display of tattoos. However, specific restrictions apply to maintain professionalism and align with the company's brand standards:
•    Tattoos on the face, neck, or hands (except for religious observance) are strictly prohibited.
•    Tattoos must not be inflammatory in political, cultural, or socio-cultural contexts.
•    Obscene words, phrases, or images are not allowed, including tattoos containing nudity, profanity, ethnic, racial, or religious slurs, or sexual innuendos.
•    Any teammate found applying or modifying tattoos while on assignment will be subject to disciplinary action due to the potential health risks and impact on their ability to perform duties.
Declaration of Tattoos

All employees must declare any potentially visible tattoos. Given that uniform requirements vary based on rank and itinerary, teammates must ensure that their tattoos remain compliant throughout all seasons. Uniforms may include short-sleeve shirts and shorts, so tattoos in these areas must adhere to company guidelines.
While small tattoos that can be covered with makeup or a small plaster (5 cm x 5 cm) may be allowed, large bandages to conceal tattoos on sleeves or lower limbs are not permitted as they do not align with uniform standards.

Exceptions for Entertainment Department
Crew members working in the Entertainment department may receive exemptions from these guidelines under specific circumstances. Any deviation from the established policy must be approved by the shoreside Head of Entertainment and will only be permitted during performances.
Princess Cruises maintains these policies to balance personal expression with the company's professional image and the expectations of its guests. By adhering to these guidelines, teammates contribute to a respectful and guest-friendly cruise environment.
