Viking announced it has taken delivery of its ninth ocean-going cruise ship, Viking Saturn, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The 47,842 gross tons vessel will be officially named in New York City on June 6, 2023, by philanthropist and Chairman of the Metropolitan Opera, Ann Ziff, who will also serve as the ship’s ceremonial godmother.
Viking's Chairman, Torstein Hagen, expressed his pride in the company's latest addition, stating that "We are very proud to welcome the newest sister ship to our award-winning ocean fleet. Viking Saturn represents the latest expression of our commitment to offering our passengers the best possible travel experiences, with an emphasis on cultural enrichment, culinary excellence, and immersive exploration."
Viking Saturn will embark on a series of cruises in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, as well as an epic 14-night Greenland cruise from Iceland to New York City, before beginning its North Atlantic summer season between New York City and Reykjavik, Iceland.
In addition to the North Atlantic cruises, Viking Saturn will also spend its inaugural season sailing around the North Atlantic region between the US, Iceland, and Norway. The vessel will embark on a 14-night Iceland, British Isles & Iberia cruise on May 9, 2023, stopping at several ports including Valencia, Lisbon, and Porto in Portugal, La Coruna in Spain, Dublin in Ireland, Liverpool in England, and Reykjavik in Iceland.
Before this cruise, the Viking Saturn will set off on its maiden voyage on May 2, 2023, on a 7-night western Mediterranean cruise, starting in Civitavecchia, Italy, and concluding in Barcelona, Spain. During this cruise, passengers will visit Livorno, Italy; Monaco, Marseille, and Sete in France, before arriving in Barcelona.
Viking Saturn is the latest addition to Viking's award-winning ocean fleet, which is renowned for its immersive cultural experiences and enrichment programs. The ship will offer passengers a wide range of amenities and facilities, including restaurants, bars, a spa, a fitness center, and several entertainment options.
The ship's interiors are designed to reflect the Nordic heritage of the Viking brand, with elegant and understated Scandinavian-style decor. The staterooms are spacious and comfortable, with a range of accommodation options available, including deluxe veranda staterooms, penthouse veranda suites, and explorer suites, which offer expansive views and luxurious amenities.
