Tasmania Fire Service was called next to Dawn Princess as a precaution measure due to a small fire on board the cruise ship this morning around 9am.
According to The Mercury an abandoned cigarette butt caused the fire to a stairwell on the Dawn Princess while it was docked at Macquarie Wharf No. 2 in Hobart. According to Carnival Australia, the fire started when a cigarette butt was swept up into a broom. The fire was quickly extinguished by the ship’s sprinkler system and local emergency services were dispatched as a safety precaution.
Tasmania Fire Service send hydraulic platform and five pumpers to the pier for what could be a worst-case scenario. None of the crew and passengers were injured and ship didn’t sustain any damage. Onboard Princess cruise ships smoking is allowed in the cigar lounge, designated areas outside and the casino. Cruise ships take fire hazard very seriously as it can spread very fast if it isn’t extinguished quickly.
