Some restaurants in the Greek island of Rhodes are taking advantage of the cruise ship tourists charging hefty price for a meal. Two days ago a family had arrived in Rhodes on a cruise ship. Going for a walk in the Jewish Martyrs Square they sat down for lunch at one of the restaurants. When asked for the dish of the day, the waiter recommended the catch of the day. The family forgot to ask the price, and the waiter charge them 300 Euros for one fish, a salad, a beer and a soft drink. After leaving the ship local authorities received a complaint via email from the ship that some passengers visited the Old City and paid a hefty amount to eat a fish a beer a cola and a salad. The fish must have been marinated in gold, otherwise you can’t explained the amount of three hundred euros.

This is not the first time tourists arriving on cruise ships are tricked of overpaying for service in Rhodes. Some restaurants are using the fact that the cruise passengers arrive for one day and are unable to file complain or report the overcharge to the local authorities. Also restaurant owners threaten the tourists with a lawsuit if they don’t pay the bill.

This year around 40 cruise ships will make 141 stops to Rhodes, Greece. This incident will bring bad reputation to Rhodes as a tourist destination.
