A horrible tragedy occurred today when guests sailing on the cruise ship Ovation of the Seas visited New Zealand's most active volcano Whakaari on White Island. Tourists have been caught up in the eruption of the volcano resulting in at least five deaths, and 27 people missing report news outlets in New Zealand. There are many people who have been taken to hospital with burns as a result of the eruption.

Two Carnival cruise ships have crashed into each other today in the port of Cozumel, Mexico around 8.30 am local time. The incident happen during maneuvering procedure performed by the cruise ship Carnival Glory while the vessel was docking when it struck the Carnival Legend, which was already moored behind it.
After the collision of Carnival Legend and Carnival Glory in Cozumel, Carnival Cruise Line has sent out a letter to passengers who are scheduled to board Carnival Glory tomorrow in New Orleans. The cruise ship Sapphire Princess was hit by lightning today while sailing in Indonesian waters. No one on board was hurt, but the lightning caused damage to the ship's radar. The lightning struck the mast of the ship and damaged the radar, therefore Sapphire Princess cannot continue the voyage until the radar is fully operational.

Hundreds of birds were discovered dead on a cruise ship open deck by the crew, yesterday morning. A crew member who wishes to remain anonymous recorded a video of the sight which appears as if the birds had dropped down dead from the sky.
The cruise ship Aegean Majesty (former Holland America Line - MS Veendam) broke her mooring lines during strong overnight winds in the port of Corinth Greece, according to a video posted online by the Korinthostv. Port Authorities said that the ship broke free on November 7, at around 4:30 a.m. due to strong winds, and was grounded on a sandbar 50 meters away from the port.
Several people have informed Crew Center that the cruise ship Norwegian Escape struck a pier in the port of Civitavecchia. According to our source, the allision happened on December 17, when the Norwegian Escape was maneuvering toward a dock when it made contact with the pier. The reasons for the accident and how the vessel deviated from its course are still unknown. Fortunately, there are no injured crew members and the damage to the ship’s hull was relatively minor.
