New delays for the launching of Costa Smeralda

The shipyard Meyer Turku announced further delay in the construction of the latest flagship for Costa Cruises, Costa Smeralda. Following this delay, the first voyage is now set for 21 December 2019 when Costa Smeralda will depart from Savona, Italy. The itinerary, which will be repeated until 16 May 2020, remains unchanged: Savona (Saturday), Marseille (Sunday), Barcelona (Monday), Palma di Maiorca (Tuesday), Civitavecchia (Thursday) and La Spezia (Friday).

Costa Venezia to serve as hotel ship for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that the largest ship introduced by Costa Cruises to the Asian market Costa Venezia, will serve as a hotel ship during the 2020 Winter Olympic Games. Costa Venezia will be berthed for 6 days at the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal (Koto Ward, Koto-Ku) during the Olympics. 

Crew Member Injured on Costa Fortuna

A 28-year-old female Filipino crew member on the cruise ship Costa Fortuna was evacuated by the Italian Coast Guard yesterday, August 2, 2019, after she suffered serious head injury onboard. According to local sources, the incident was reported late in the evening while the ship was near Sanremo, Italy. The crew member slipped in her cabin and sustained a serious head injury from the fall. 

Costa Cruises signs the “Genoa Blue” Agreement

Costa Cruises has signed the Agreement "Genoa Blue", an initiative promoted by the Italian Coast Guard. According to the agreement the cruise ships will use fuel with sulfur content below 0.10% when entering the ports of Genoa and Savona. Existing legislation has already regulated this limit when the ships are docked, but the new resolution also establishes this rule before ships enter the ports.

Costa Cruises Crew Fed Up With Low Bandwidth And High Internet Prices

A crew member send us an email expressing his frustration about the onboard internet prices and low bandwidth on Costa Cruises ships. The crew member says “Costa Cruise is making huge revenue with the internet for the crew. The crew in Costa is paying 7 cents per minute for extremely slow internet. In all the other companies there are very convenient internet packages for the crew. Costa does not want to renounce to the revenue from the crew.  A Strike needs to be organized soon!”

Costa Luminosa Recognized by Hellenic Coast Guard For Rescuing Crew From Burning Ship

Captain and the crew of the cruise ship Costa Luminosa were presented with a plaque by the Hellenic Coast Guard for the rescue of 11 crew members from the cargo ship "Kilic 1". Captain Pietro Sinisi is pictured here receiving the recognition on behalf of all shipboard personnel on Costa Luminosa from the Hellenic Coast Guard.
