Submitted by kgnadmin on

Medical Emergency was executed yesterday onboard Serenade of the Seas. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship made an unscheduled stop in St John's, Newfoundland after a man needed urgent medical attention.

The news station cbc.ca reported that St. John's Port Authority confirmed the man was brought to shore at approximately 5:30 p.m. September, 6. Serenade of the Seas was sailing towards Halifax from Akureyri, Iceland when Alfa code for a medical emergency was sounded on the PA system. After reaching St John's the man was transported to shore by a tender boat, and then taken to hospital in an ambulance. There is no information about the identity of the man and if he was a passenger or crew member.

According to Gerri Lynn Mackey, Reporter with VOCM, Serenade of the Seas was anchored outside the port just beyond St John's narrows, while sending a tender boat in order to transport the ill man to the shore. The reporter filmed the tender boat once it arrived at the dock saying that “Crew members refused to comment as to why they're here.”
